About Tango Cafe

The Tango Cafe mission is dance: Salsa, ballroom, tango, that sort of thing. As of July, it’s moved from Gregory Street to a new home on Washington Street, the 187-year-old Child House, 35 S. Washington St.

Behind the huge columns on the outside of the historic house, Tango Cafe owner Kerri Vaughn has installed new hardwood floors, the kind of floors required by her serious dancers. As the summer progresses, she’ll be adding liquor and food licenses and adding an upstairs restaurant.”

We are pleased to offer our facilities and staff to help make your wedding, special event or business meeting both meaningful and memorable.  You will be surrounded by the elegance and charm of this historic Greek revival mansion. The house and grounds create a picturesque setting for every occasion.

Built in 1837-1838 by Jonathan Child (1785–1860), Rochester’s first mayor and son-in-law of the city’s founder Nathaniel Rochester, the Rochester Landmark Society considers the Jonathan Child House one of the best examples of Greek Revival Architecture in the United States. Retaining her 19th century beauty and architecture, the Jonathan Child House adorned with original quartz chandeliers, surrounds you in an elegant Victorian atmosphere. The first floor ballroom opens up to the front portico beneath the massive two-story columns, which make the building so identifiable. Tango Cafe has updated this lovely and classic building with new solid hardwood floors and a new sound system that will enhance your experience. Learn more about private events by clicking here.
